The Victoria Cohen Eye Cancer Charitable Trust was very excited to announce Dr. Sayed Mansoor Sediqi from Kabul, Afghanistan, as the winner of the Victoria Cohen Scholarship 2024 earlier this year. The purpose of the charity is to support aspiring ocular oncologists who are in need of financial assistance for their training. Once qualified, these individuals return home to save the lives, eyes, and vision of people affected by eye cancer in their native country. There currently is no ocular oncology service in Afghanistan and the charity believes the training of Dr. Sediqi to be of great importance.
Dr. Sediqi secured a position to train at the Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, USA, but visa issues are currently preventing him from beginning his fellowship. Whilst this unexpected delay is frustrating for all concerned, the charity will continue to support Dr.Sediqi as and when he obtains the necessary visa or if he is offered a fellowship in ocular oncology at another Centre of Excellence.
The application process for next year’s Victoria Cohen Scholarship remains the same. The deadline is 31st December 2024. To apply, click here
